Swim Test Protocol

1. Each child under the age of 12 will be swim tested and will be given a colored band to wear at the pool and on deck at all times.


c. Swim 3 lap lanes (10 yards) unassisted adn without rest.  Swimmer must maintain positive body position (legs should not drop past 

45 degree angle) for the entire distance.

d. Turn on their back, and swim back on their back to the wall.

Green Band swimmers are allowed in all the pool areas.

 

3. If a swimmer cannot complete each of the objectives listed above, they may take the the Yellow Band shallow water competency test:

a. Jump in water over their head and recover.

b. Swim 3 lap lanes (10 yards) unassisted adn without rest.  Swimmer must maintain positive body position (legs should not drop

past 45 degree angle) for the entire distance.

c. Tread water 30 seconds

Yellow Band swimmers must stay in water that is 5'6" deep or less.

 

4. Those who do not pass the shallow water competency test are considered Red Band  or non-swimmers.  Those who decline to take the test are also considered non-swimmers.

Red Band swimmer must stay in water that is 4 feet or less adn require active adult supervision.  Active supervision means that adult must be in the water within arms reach at all times (1 adult per 2 children ratio). Unless water is armpit or less Red Band swimmers are required to wear a Coast Guard approved PFD.

 

Notes:

- At no time may a child with a red band or yellow band be allowed in the diving are of the pool.

- Intentionally wearing the wrong color safety band results in immediate removal from the pool.

- Children up to the age of 8 must be accompanied in the pool by a responsible member over the age of 16.

- Children over the age of 8 must be accompanied to the pool by the responsible member over the age of 16.  THis person must drop off and pick up the child and must remain in the building

- The child must pass a swim test with a Green Band from a lifeguard before swimming
         Yellow Band, the member accompanying them must remain on the pool deck with them.
         Red Band, the member accompanying them must be in the water with them
