At the Lake Wales Family YMCA, we value our members and think of them as part of our family. Once a month we like to show our appreciation by having a Member Appreciation Day. We hold these on the third Monday of each month. Our most recent Member Appreciation Day was held on Presidents Day, February 20, 2012. This month we had a special guest from Herbaife Nutrition Club come visit our facility from 8:30 am – 10:30 am.

Have you heard about Parents’ Night Out at The Y?


Tired of paying an arm and a leg for a babysitter?  Drop your children off at the YMCA’s Parents’ Night Out.  A whole night at Parents’ Night Out will cost you less than one hour with a normal babysitter.  Where could you ever find a deal like that?  The best thing about Parents’ Night Out is that your kids will be sure to love it.  The next Parents’ Night Out is Saturday, March 3rd from 6pm to 10pm.

The shores of Lake Wailes were lit up with glowing bracelets as seventy racers participated in the Lake Wales Family YMCA’s 1st Annual Beads for Needs 5K.  On Friday, February 17th we lined up and ran for a great cause, raising over $1,500 for our Teen Building summer program.  The race attracted runners ages six to sixty-six, and no matter how old they were everybody had a great time.  Our men’s overall winner was Angel Sanchez with a time of 20:23 and our overall women’s winner was Kristin Coker with a time of 21:04.

Want a night off from your beloved children? 

Drop them off at the YMCA's Parents' Night Out! 

Every 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month we will provide a FUN and more importantly SAFE place for your child. From 6pm-10pm your child will have the opportunity to play games, do art projects, watch movies, exercise, and much more. There will also be a special surprise guest each week. The YMCA will even provide snacks! Children under 5 years old will be in their own area unless otherwise requested.

Want to race to raise money for a great cause?  Do you think you could benefit from a 200yd head start?  You will have a chance to do both at the Lake Wales Family YMCA’s Beads for Needs 5K Race, which will benefit the Y’s Teen Building summer program.  It will be a night race beginning at 6:30pm on Friday, February 17th.  The race will begin and end at Kiwanis Park.  To make things interesting every set of beads you buy will get you a 20yd head start; purchase up to ten sets of beads and get a maximum of a 200yd head start.  We will also do a free Kid’s Fun Run on Saturday, February 18th at 12pm. Runners ages 2 – 12 will need to meet downtown at the corner of Stuart and Market.  Every runner will receive an award.

Do you ever ask yourself what the benefits of preschool are?  Children, as a whole, are more successful in school after attending a quality preschool.  The education they receive provides an advantage and decreases the chance of children failing and repeating grades, which could ultimately lead to low self-esteem.  Studies show that children who attend preschool fare better in grade school than children who do not.  Special education placements are lower for those who attend preschool programs.  High School graduate percentages are generally higher as a result of early education.

2011 Lights of Love - Shining for a stronger community

On December 10, 2011, the Lake Wales Family YMCA held its 23rd Annual Lights of Love on the shores of Lake Wailes.  Lights of Love is an opportunity for people to purchase luminaries in honor or memory of loved ones.  Local businesses can also purchase luminaries to honor their employees in appreciation for their dedication and hard work.  Well over 900 luminaries lined the bike path and were lit for the community to enjoy and browse through.

Marketing Internship currently available for student interested in learning and participating in re-branding efforts here at The Y.  We are looking an enthusiastic, creative, proactive person who can assist us with day-to-day marketing efforts.  Preferred availability of approximately ten (10) hours per week. Communication, Business or Marketing major preferred.  Experience in Microsoft Publisher and Adobe In Design strongly desired.  Please download and complete a Volunteer Application and return to the YMCA.
